Directors Reports
Bill Fowles (sent via email)
  • OMEA District Large Group this Friday.
 Could still use one chaperone per group if possible.
 They would ride up and back with each group
 Help students set up stage for each group
  • Disney Trip is in the works – what is the price for the trip? $1,375 for a Quad
     Question about dates
     Over Spring Break?
     Over Winter Break?
o What are thoughts from Parents?
o Mr. Notestine and I are leaning towards changing it to Winter unless
parents think this would be an issue.
 Will not impact price that much. Would be about $50 cheaper
  • Fall schedule/information will come out on Friday. Looking to finalize one thing before
    releasing.
 This will include Summer Schedule
     Parent Meeting times/dates
 Audition material for symphonic/concert band next year
  • Uniforms
    • Shako Wraps were sent back to be fixed.
    • Do we want to order the capes?
    • Is there money to do so?
    • Would cost roughly $6,500 (might be money in the Forever Fund/Student Fundraising
      Account)
  • Are those dates finalized for Tag Day & Food Truck? See above
    • I’ll start letting students know to plan for them.
    • Also, if you can give me more guidance on what you need from me for those events
      that would be great!
    • We can have Jazz play again for the Food Truck date.
    • What is needed on my end for Tag day besides getting students involved?
  • Note: encourage Dempsey Bands to come
Alan Notestine (sent via email)
  • The Dempsey program is going well at the current time.
  • 6th grade band:
 The directors have done a rotation between the different groups so that the kids can
experience all of us at some time. During this rotation, Mrs. B has moved to teaching the
brass, Mr. Notestine, the percussion, and Mr. Fowles the woodwinds. The kids seem to
be enjoying it and when asked say “yeah, our regular teacher says that all the time!”
Which, of course, is what we want them to recognize. While we have different teaching
styles, there are many consistencies in what we teach. The full band has four pieces that
we have begun working on for the May 3rd concert.
  • 7th grade band:
 This is a very talented group of young individuals and I have given them 3 difficult pieces
to prepare for the May concert. We are utilizing a variety of percussion instruments and
sounds (including vocal and clapping) in our work. They are very enthusiastic about each
of the pieces and have even asked for an additional piece, which may come out after
    break.
  • 8th grade band:
 Our 8th graders are preparing four pieces for the May Concert and are working hard
during rehearsals. They have chosen more of a movie themed program and are
    anticipating a fun-filled program.
  • Jazz Band:
 I currently have between 30-35 students that show up every Monday and Wednesday
mornings. In fact, many are asking for Fridays as well, although, I am tempted to decline
as I’m sure the parents wouldn’t be thrilled if I added another early day to their
schedule. We are currently working on seven songs for our program. We will perform all
of them during the Dempsey Art Fair on April 27th at 4 pm in the commons. We will do
four songs at the Spring concert and three when they perform at Cedar Point (Music in
the Parks Festival) on May 6.
  • Dempsey Rep:
 I have begun inquiring of parental interest to be our Dempsey representative. I will
approach one parent at a time until one or two have been secured for the position. I am
focusing on 6th grade parents so as to maximize the time they can assist in that
    position.
  • Solo/Ensemble:
 I have 12 students that are working on solos and 9 ensembles. The goal is to have the
students perform in front of a judge and receive comments, similar in fashion as would
happen if this were an official OMEA sanctioned event. My plan is to have retired
educators come in during the school day and listen to the performers and provide
instructional critique. This will occur in late April, dodging state testing simultaneously
Old Business
  • Should we start soliciting for upcoming open positions – Secretary & VP1
  • Form a nominating committee – just a couple of people to help recruit
  • Send a mid-month reminder email – ask for a response

New Business: nothing new
Meeting adjourned at 7:44pm Motion by Monica Logsdon, seconded by Erica Hyland
